Services > Comprehensive Retrofit Assessment Service includes:

Performance Data Evaluation: Detailed evaluation of 12 months of energy use data (utility bills). Includes utility bill disaggregation.

Interview: Preliminary interview with owner, prior to assessment, to define goals of project.

Blower Door Test: Used to quantify total air/energy leaks from the home. Used to determine minimum ventilation guideline (MVG) to ensure that house maintains healthy level of ventilation after air sealing. Also used to make zonal measurements to determine infiltration rates from crawlspace, attic or other unheated zone.

Infrared Scan: Imaging is conducted in conjunction with blower door testing to accurately profile hidden air leakage in the building. Test is also used to identify insulation deficiencies and other anomalies. Photos are incorporated into report.

Duct Leakage Test: Test is conducted in conjunction with blower door test to quantify duct leakage. This assessment is used to guide any duct sealing efforts.

Building Inspection: In addition to blower door test and infrared scan, this is a visual inspection of building components that may be contributing to energy loss:

Insulation: Inspection of existing type, quality and amount of insulation in the context of recommended R-values for our climate. Windows & Doors: Evaluation of window and door function. Components are also assessed for heat loss and gain against Energy Star performance standards. Duct Inspection: Visual Inspection of any accessible duct work.

Solar Resource Evaluation: Through this assessment we conduct measurements of the available solar resource at your site. This information is put in the proper context to help you decide if the pursuit of solar power makes sense at your location.

Equipment & Appliances: Evaluation of heating and hot water equipment. Includes recommendations for modifications to increase efficiency.

Carbon Monoxide Test: Basic sampling undertaken to assess whether any combustion appliances are malfunctioning and generating unacceptable levels of carbon monoxide (CO) in the home.

Cost Estimates: Experience working with contractors allows me to make realistic cost estimates of proposed retrofit work.

Computer modeling of building systems: Modeling incorporates information from utility bill analysis, test results, visual inspection, and cost estimates. This energy modeling allows for superior financial analysis of strategies.

Comprehensive Report: Resultant comprehensive report includes remediation strategies based on energy modeling, detailed cost estimates, and financial analysis. Client can choose plan based on project goals including but not limited to simple payback, ROI, or BCR
